Retirement Calculator

Retirement saving is hard to judge because compound growth does most of its work late. Enter your current age, retirement age, current savings, monthly contribution and an expected annual return and this calculator projects the balance at retirement — in future money and, adjusted for inflation, in today's money — with a year-by-year growth table.

Frequently asked questions

Is the projected balance guaranteed?

No. Investment returns vary year to year and are never guaranteed. The projection assumes a steady average return, which is a planning illustration, not a promise.

What return should I assume?

Use a cautious long-run figure and try a lower one too. A projection at 5 percent and at 7 percent shows how much the assumption matters.

Why show today's-money value as well?

Because inflation erodes purchasing power. A balance that looks large in 30 years buys less then; the inflation-adjusted figure keeps the target honest.
