Grade point average turns a term of letter grades into one number. Enter your grades separated by commas — A, A-, B+, B and so on — and optionally matching credit hours, and this calculator works out your GPA on the standard 4.0 scale, weighted by credits when you give them.

Frequently asked questions

What grade points are used?

The standard 4.0 scale: A is 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0 and F 0.0.

How does credit weighting work?

If you enter credits, each grade is multiplied by its course credits before averaging, so a 4-credit course counts twice as much as a 2-credit one. Without credits, every grade counts equally.

Does this match my school's exact scale?

Most schools use the 4.0 scale above, but some differ on plus/minus values or use a different scale entirely. Check your school's handbook for an official figure.
