Average Calculator

Averages hide as much as they reveal when you pick the wrong one, so this calculator shows them all at once. Paste or type a list of numbers and it returns the mean, the median, the mode and the range, with the sorted list and the count, so you can see which average actually describes your data.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between mean and median?

The mean is the total divided by the count. The median is the middle value when the list is sorted, so it is less affected by one very large or very small number.

What if there is no mode?

The tool says so plainly. Some lists have no repeated value, and some have two or more values tied for most frequent.

Can I mix decimals and negatives?

Yes. Decimals and negative numbers are accepted, and the sorted list shows exactly what was counted.
